Enough with the frozen sausage already. Not only is it easy enough to make your own breakfast patties, but it's a whole lot tastier—and healthier—than settling for the store-bought stuff.
All it takes for a hearty, mouthwatering DIY sausage is ground pork, spices, and a bit of maple syrup (yes, syrup). There's 10 grams of protein to help keep you full, plus a savory flavor that's hard to beat.
Pair your patties with the usual bacon and eggs, or throw them in a breakfast burrito topped with hot sauce.
What You Need:
1 lb ground pork
3 1/2 tsp fine salt
1 1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp dried sage
1 Tbsp maple syrup
How to Do It:
Using your hands, fold the sage, salt, and black pepper into the pork. Mix for one minute before you add the maple syrup, and then mix for another 4 minutes.
Divide the mixture into 8 portions and shape them into 2-inch patties. Cook the patties in a large skillet over medium-low heat until golden brown on both sides, about 3 minutes per side.
